About my business

Simplifying Life - How

I have made it my personal mission since starting as a mental health professional back in 2005 -after initially forging a career as barrister/solicitor- to help my clients manage and/or remove symptoms of anxiety, depression, mental ill health and stress, so they can find balance in their personal and professional lives"

My main focus is on simplifying life, utilising Mindfulness techniques formally (through inner exercises and meditation) and informally (by learning to live “mindfully”). Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioural approaches, combined with mindfulness-based techniques are the primary agents for change that I utilise in my practice.”

I effectively blend together eastern philosophies and western evidence-based modalities to impart powerful change tools to my clientele. I am absolutely fascinated by the science and application of neuro-plasticity and mindfulness. We can actually train our brains to become less reactive, and better able to deal with hardships. Imagine being able to prime your brain in such a way, that you are able to weather any storm, and come out “ok”. That’s the hope and expectation that these new neuro-science techniques provide to the mental health field. You can learn to become virtually immune to “problems”.

Techniques for Simplifying Life

More specifically, my practice utilises techniques from, and is heavily based on:

  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming and other (verbal and non-verbal) language tools
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Principles of Positive Psychology
  • Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Keirsey Temperament Sorter
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Mindfulness-integrated CBT (MiCBT)
  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Whether you are “worried well” or suffering from symptoms of mental illness, I am convinced a positive difference will be made once you start applying the tools I can provide you with.

Experience and Resources

I work in my private practice, and am an experienced EAP (Employee Assistance Program) counsellor for a number of leading Australian EAP providers, such as:

Mental Health Strategies

In my practice, I have worked with a host of mental health concerns, among which:

  • anxiety, depression, panic, stress, PTSD
  • workplace conflict
  • relationship issues
  • parenting issues
  • addictions (alcohol & other drugs, gambling, etc).
  • work-life balance
  • entrepreneurial stress
  • career and life transitions
  • financial problems

In each year, approximately one in every five Australians will experience a mental illness. Mental illnesses are the third leading cause of disability burden in Australia, accounting for an estimated 27% of the total years lost due to disability (Source: Mindframe).

These statistics do not even include the “worried well”, people who do not have a mental illness, but are still suffering from mental ill-health. People like you and I. The statistics are staggering. Australians are suffering from mental health concerns in ever-increasing and alarming numbers.
